The Tour of California will move from its traditional mid-February date to its requested slot in May for 2010. It will also be given ProTour status in 2011.

Branden Hays’ picture of the peloton passing through the California countryside is the winner of our Amgen Tour of California photo contest.
We liked that it offered a different perspective than the other race pictures, and that even with the rain, showed off the pastoral countryside that the race was passing through.

The organizers of the Amgen Tour of California saved the most difficult day for last. While the stage, at 96.8 miles, was not all that long for these guys, it included four California Travel & Tourism King of the Mountains climbs, none more fearsome than Palomar Mountain, a beyond categorization climb that peaked at 5123 feet, the highest summit ever reached in the Tour.

The Lowdown:
Today’s stage of the Amgen Tour of California was characterized by attacks from the start of the race. Today’s course traveled 88.9 miles from Santa Clarita to Pasadena. As soon as the flag dropped at the end of the 3.5 mi. neutral section, the break attempts began.
