2009 Vuelta a Espana – Stage 21/Final Results

Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d’Epargne) won the 2009 Vuelta a Espana to claim the first Grand Tour victory of his career and André Greipel (Columbia-HTC) claimed his fourth stage victory in this year’s event.

Anthony Roux of Francaise des Jeux survived a long breakaway from km 6 to barely take the win today. Alejandro Valverde still sits atop the G.C., but there is a change below him as Robert Gesink has dropped down, presumably from a crash during the stage.
