In the final race of the GVA trophy series in Oostmalle, Belgium, world champion Niels Albert got off to a quick start in an effort to make good on his promise to take his third victory in a row at the race. Only Sven Nys and Sven Vanthourenhout hung close at the start of the race, and just as Kevin Pauwels was able to bridge to the three leaders, Nys made another break, which only Albert was able to answer.  The pair started the last lap together, but Albert flipped …

Although he only needed to finnish in seventh or better to insure the overall title, Sven Nys raced hard on a slippery and muddy track and finished 8 seconds ahead of world champion Niels Albert. Erwin Vervecken finished third, 17 seconds behind Albert.
Bart Wellens gapped the field by 10 seconds with a quick start, but eventually gave way to Albert, who led a small group that included Nys, Kevin Paulwels, Klaas Vantornout, and Vervecken. When Albert attacked again, only Nys could follow, and Sven was able to pass Niels on the …

We have a few cyclocross races to catch up on in today’s update, plus some mountain biking bits to whet your appetite.

Niels Albert won Saturday’s Krawatencross GVA Trophy race in Lille, Belgium by millimeters over Sven Nys. With his second-place finish, Nys wrapped up the GVA Trophy series, his second series win of the year after his World Cup series win in Milan. Bart Wellens was third, 44 seconds back.
Daphny van den Brand easily won the women’s race in Lille, with new world champ Marianne Vos second and Sanne Cant a close third …
