Nearly 30 riders stayed grouped at the front for more than three laps at the start of the race. During the fourth lap, however, Phillipp Walsleben made a break that resulted in a decisive victory for the German. His lead grew from 20 meters to almost 30 seconds as none of the followers had an answer for his attack. In the final sprint to determine who would get silver, another German, Christoph Pfingsten, finished just ahead of Polish rider Pawel Szczepaniak.

Colorado Springs, Colo. (January 14, 2009)-USA Cycling announced today the five athletes that were nominated to represent the United States in the elite men’s category at the 2009 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships on Feb. 1 in Hoogerheide, Netherlands.
Ryan Trebon (Bend, Ore.), Tim Johnson (Middleton, Mass.) and Jeremy Powers (Hadley, Mass.) all earned automatic nominations to the team as the top three Americans in the UCI rankings.
Trebon (20th) and Powers (27th) will head to the Netherlands to contest the event. Johnson, ranked 22nd in the world, has declined his …

Colorado Springs, Colo. (December 19, 2007)—USA Cycling announced today its first lot of nominations to the U.S. National Team for the 2008 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Treviso, Italy, Jan. 26-27.
Sixteen athletes were nominated to the squad in the elite women’s, U23 men’s and junior men’s categories based on their competitive performance over the course of the last year.
After capturing a silver medal at the 2007 world championships, Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Spike Shooter) received an automatic nomination and will lead the elite women’s squad. Compton is currently ranked second …
