Bouygues Telecom and Euskaltel-Euskadi, the last two teams waiting for the renewal of their 2009 Pro Tour license, finally received their certifications from the UCI. Euskaltel-Euskadi received a 2 year license and Bouyges Telecom was approved for a year.

The 2008 season has barely come to a close, and here we are talking about 2009 (and more) already:

Now that Bernhard Kohl has owned up to his doping, he is urging Gerolsteiner teammate Stefan Schumacher to do the same. Kohl and Schumacher were roommates during the Tour de France (as were… wait for it… Ricco and Piepoli), so Kohl likely has insider knowledge. (SportBILD)

Time to get out the cold weather gear! Here at BWN Headquarters, the sun came out long enough today to drop below the horizon. Here’s the latest news:

Ivan Basso had his official team presentation with Liquigas yesterday and says that he is ready to race. He’ll compete at the Japan Cup on October 26th, then will be focusing on the Giro, with stops in Argentina (Tour of San Luis) and California (Tour of California) along the way. (BBC Sport)

It’s the slow season for cycling, but it seems that there’s always something going on…

After news broke that the German television networks ARD and ZDF would not be broadcasting the Tour de France, the organizers of the Tour of Germany decided to cancel their 2009 race. Look was proud to talk about their 2009 line. I spoke to Steve Sperling, a mechanic for the Tibco team, which is sponsored by Look.
We first discussed the new 596 TT bike. This bike is 2 pounds lighter than its predecessor and features the new Keo Zed crank, which offers and incredible amount of stiffness to weight.

Today’s stage travels from yesterday’s arrival town of Valladolid to the city of Las Rozas. The road tilts gently upward for about the first 85 kilometers and then the stage gets a little more bumpy, culminating in the climb up Category 3 Alto des Leones at the 128km mark. From there, the riders will have a 38km downhill ride into the town of Las Rozas. The sprinters will have some time to recover before the finish.

With one week to go in the Vuelta, today was the day to make big moves, and that’s exactly what Alberto Contador did today. One the day with the most intense climb (the HC Alto de l’Angliru) he moved past his competitors in the final 3500 meters to take the stage and the overall lead.
