The teams have been making their announcements for several days now, but at last, we have the comprehensive list of teams and riders for the 100th Anniversary of Milan-San Remo. This is a long race, and with last year’s winner Fabian Cancellara out of the running, it’s anyone’s guess who will win this year. Columbia-Highroad’s Thomas Lovkvist blasted to a superb victory in the gruelling Eroica Toscana one-day race in Italy on Saturday.
190 kilometres long, the Eroica race is run over a unique combination of gravel tracks, dirt roads and normal tarmacked roads. It can therefore only be won by riders who are both exceptional bike handlers, and exceptionally talented athletes.

Full team rosters have been released for the Amgen Tour of California. All of the heavy hitters are going to be there, and while some may argue that this is not the strongest international field ever seen on American soil, it has to be pretty close. You could certainly make the argument that it’s a very strong international field and the strongest domestic field (nine teams) that we’ve ever seen.

Even two passes of the notorious Willunga Hill couldn’t come between Allan Davis’ (Quick Step) and his dream of winning his home ProTour race. The Queenslander all but sealed the general classification after sprinting to another stage victory on Stage 5.
“Absolutely unbelievable, I wouldn’t be here without my team,” said Davis. “It’s been another amazing day with the crowds. I just can’t believe how well the event has gone. Thank you.”

Queensland’s Allan Davis (Quickstep) has taken over the lead in the 2009 Tour Down Under after winning the 145km second stage from Hahndorf through the Adelaide Hills to Stirling. Davis is riding in his eleventh Tour Down Under the only rider to have contested the event every year since its inception.
“It’s very special,” said Davis. “You know we came here with an objective of winning a stage and we’ve done that on the second stage so we’re very happy as a team.

Here are the preliminary results from Stage 2 of the Tour Down Under.
Allan Davis (Quick Step) took the stage victory. Graeme Brown (Rabobank), Martin Elmiger (Ag2R), Stuart O’Grady (Saxo Bank) and George Hincapie (Team Columbia) round out the Top 5.
Robbie McEwen tried for the final sprint, but did not make it.
Official crowd figures say 90,000 people were on hand to watch today’s 145 km stage.
