Well, the off season is well along. Training camps have already started for Astana and Garmin Chipotle, and will start soon for a number of other teams. The Tour Down Under starts in 6 weeks. The UCI is finalizng teams for 2009 and there is no shortage of news:

Lots of news today, so let’s get started.

Alberto Contador has confirmed that he’ll stay with Astana for 2009. He and Lance Armstrong will each formulate their own calendars for next season and focus on the races that they want to win. (This will only be a problem if Contador wants to repeat at the Giro, which Lance has said that he wants to win.)

Lance, doping, transfers, hurt feelings and a little more today:

Depeche du Midi groups Lance Armstrong in with cycling’s worst culprits, including Michael Rasmussen, Ibin Mayo, Ivan Basso, Patrick Sinkewitz, Matthias Kessler, Floyd Landis, Ricardo Ricco, Andrei Kashechkin and Alexander Vinokourov. Of course, with the exception of Lance, all of those listed either doped, said that they intended to doped, or tried to elude doping tests.
