US Grand Prix Cyclocross series expands to four weekends this year:

Sept. 26-27: Planet Bike Cup in Madison, Wisconsin.
Oct. 24-25: Louisville, Kentucky.
Nov. 14-15: Mercer Cup in Mercer County, New Jersey.
Dec. 5-6: Portland, Oregon.

And speaking of bike racing and television, UCI reports that the 2008 cyclocross world championships were the top-ranked sporting event broadcast by the Flemmish-language public TV station in Belgium. In …

Saratoga Springs, NY – The series that stoked the exponential growth of cyclocross in the United States – the U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross – has announced its dates for the upcoming season. The 2009 Series returns for a third year to Louisville, KY, Mercer Co., NJ and Portland, OR. The USGP is also pleased to announce its expansion to a fourth weekend of racing with the addition of the Planet Bike Cup in Madison, WI to its lineup.

USA Cycling sent out a news update. Here are some of the highlights:

The recent growth trends of participation in competitive cycling are continuing as USA Cycling this week exceeded 63,200 members for the 2008 season – an increase of nearly 2.7% compared to this week last year. USA Cycling finished the 2007 season with 61,564 licenses sold. Currently, mountain bike license sales are up over 2.6% while Road, Track and Cyclo-cross license sales are up nearly 3.6%.
