On a rain-soaked day that was the first real day of climbing, Andre Greipel (Columbia-HTC) won the 225 km stage from Venlo to Liege that took in parts of the course for the Tour of Flanders and Liege-Bastogne-Liege. The end of the race was contested by a group of six riders that survived a huge crash in the last couple of kilometers.
