With the upcoming holiday weekend, this may be the last news update until next week. Of course, we’ll still be covering the Six Days of Ghent and other breaking news as it comes up.

The 69th edition of the Six Days of Ghent opens tonight, but before the beer flows and the frites are dipped in mayo, organizers of the race will pay tribute to Belgian Six Day great Dmitri De Fauw, who committed suicide just days after racing in the Six Days of Grenoble.

A former roadie for Quick Step from 2003-2005, De Fauw was best known for his performance on track, winning the Belgian championship in the sprint, keirin and scratch events.

Dutch doping expert Douwe de Boer says that Iljo Keisse will have a hard time explaining his way out of the doping positive from the Six Days of Ghent. While the positive for Cathine can likely be tied to cold medicine that Keisse was taking during the race, the presence of HCT is more troubling. HCT is typically only seen in medications for those with heart complications.
