A weekend of records and crashes just about sums up the three days the worlds best had at Copenhagen.
Star of the show has to be Taylor Phinney, setting, or should that be smashing the US records in both pursuit and kilo. Not only has Phinney set down a benchmark for future performances, but he may well have set the trend for future years with pursuiters racing the shorter event.
If Phinney walked away with a smile on his face Chris Hoy left the track with something else. A gold in the …

Copenhagen World Cup – Day 1
Talking point of the day was Taylor Phinney’s impressive ride of 4.15 to qualify fastest in the men’s individual pursuit. Taking a full 4 seconds off the US record (has a record ever been beaten by so much?) Taylor went on to gold, in a ride that he described as ‘Slayin’.
If Taylor’s ride was the surprise of the day it was pretty much business as usual on the rest of the track.
The men’s team sprint qualifying round saw the French and British each qualify two …

DOHA (AFP) — Belgian Tom Boonen claimed his first stage win of this year’s Tour of Qatar Tuesday, in the process taking the leader’s jersey from Britain’s Roger Hammond.
Boonen, of Quick Step, won a bunch sprint at the end of the third stage ahead of Italian Danilo Napolitano and Belgian Jurgen Roelandts.
Sprint rival Mark Cavendish, who won an impressive four stages at last year’s Tour de France, which Boonen missed because of events off the bike, punctured in the finale.
It was a successful day for Boonen on three fronts: as …

I first became aware of these cycling tights when I read a review about them on the RoadCyclingUK website. When I decided to race this year and knew that I would be doing a lot of cold weather training, I wanted to give them a try.
I have to admit – the first thing that attracted me to these tights was the price. They retail for under $60 at current exchange rates. You would have a hard time finding a pair of non-insulated bib shorts at that price.
The Merston’s are made …
