“A third place by Erik Zabel in the final event of the night, the keirin, gave him and partner Leif Lampater the lead after the fifth night of the Gent Zesdaagse. The five points put the German above 300, which meant that they were awarded a bonus lap. Risi/Aeschbach had taken over the lead halfway through the night but stand now in second place, equal on laps with the Germans. Zabel/Lampater have 302 points, while the Swiss have 216.
