After a very lively 5th stage between Pré-en-Pail and Le Mans, Agritubel’s David Le Lay, the leader of the race the past two days, has maintained his position over his opponents to win the 57th Circuit de la Sarthe. Le Laystayed 17 seconds ahead of his two pursuers – Italian Enrico Rossi (2nd, Ceramica Flaminia) and the French Benoît Vaugrenard (3rd, Française des Jeux). This is his second stage race win of the season after his success with the Three Days of Vaucluse.

Anthony Roux (Française des Jeux) won Thursday’s 4th stage of the Circuit de la Sarthe, a 180.8 km race between Angers and Pre-en-Pail. He outpaced his teammate Benoit Vaugrenard and Julien Simon (Besson Chaussures). The Frenchman David Le Lay (Agritubel) retains the yellow jersey. This is Roux’s first victory as a professional. He is just a few days shy of his 22nd birthday, so this is a nice gift for him.

Jimmy Engoulvent (Besson Chaussures – Sojasun) won the 6.1 kilometer individual time trial in Wednesday. His time of 7:44 nipped Andréas Klöden (Astana) by one second. Frantisek Rabon (Team Columbia – Highroad) claimed the final spot on the podium, three seconds behind Engoulvent.
Race leader David Le Lay (Agritubel) was an additional 7 seconds back, but maintains the yellow jersey heading into Thursday’s fourth stage from Angers to Pré-en-Pail.

Frenchman David Le Lay (Agritubel) won the second stage of the Circuit de la Sarthe on Wednesday. Slightly less than one third of the way through the 93.8 kilometer stage from Ancenis to Angers, Le Lay made a successful break from the pack and finished in front by 27 seconds.
Greg Henderson (Team Columbia – Highroad) from New Zeland won the sprint for second place and Italian Alberto Loddo (Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Androni Giocattoli) was third. First stage winner Enrico Rossi (Ceramica Flaminia-Bossoni Docce) of Italy suffered a fall and finished 27 seconds …
