Fabian Cancellera started the day in the leader’s jersey, but it was Francisco Mancebo of Rock Racing who was “here to stay”. You’d never know it from his performance yesterday, but Cancellera started the race with a virus and today, in nasty weather conditions, he decided to drop out of the race at the first feed zone. Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre was also recovering from the flu, but he definitely looked like he was taking it easy in the prologue.
Today’s stage ran 173km from the town of Davis …

You could certainly make the argument that it’s a very strong international field and the strongest domestic field (nine teams) that we’ve ever seen.
Astana will be there with defending champion Levi Leipheimer, and of course, Lance Armstrong. Saxo Bank will be sending the Schleck …

It’s scary how much news there is today (okay, not really):

USA Cycling is revamping their track program, likely in response to the success that Great Britain enjoyed at this year’s Olympic Games. They aim to identify and develop a deeper pool of track racing talent by providing increased exposure to world-class competition at various non-traditional events. (Velo News)
Most of Great Britain’s track cyclists will be back in action at this weekend’s World Cup Classics series in Manchester, England (BBC Sport)

BBC also previews the next generation of British track cyclists, who …

A couple of days ago, we noted that Fabian Cancellera and some others were riding a new Cervelo for the Olympic road race. Cervelo made it seem that there would not be any additional information about the bike for several weeks, but I received an e-mail this morning letting me know that I could buy one at Competitive Cyclist.
A little more about the bike: The comfort level is said to be on par with their R3 model – very comfortable for long hauls on bad roads, yet still offers the …
