Italian rider Leonardo Piepoli faces a two-year ban after testing positive for the banned blood-boosting drug erythropoietin at the Tour de France, the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) said on Thursday.

Moises Duenas, Riccardo Ricco and Bernhard Kohl have summoned been to appear Thursday before the French anti-doping organization (AFLD) for disciplinary hearings. The three riders, which can be represented by a lawyer, will face the nine members of the AFLD and risk two years to six years’ suspension on French territory in accordance with French anti-doping law. Following the hearing, the decision will be deliberated and the penalty should be revealed by several weeks.

It’s coming up on Turkey Day here in the states. It’s the “off season”, but several teams have already had get-togethers for their riders, and training camps could start as soon as early December. It won’t be long until we’re back to full blown race coverage. Here’s the headlines for now.:

Leonardo Piepoli’s B-sample from the Tour de France has also been found to be positive for CERA. The 37 year old racer will likely face a career ending 2 year suspension from the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) (Sportwereld.be)

While doing some page cleanup last night, I came across this headline:
“Ricardo Ricco was not planning to ride in the TdF, but got called up after Saunier Duval-Scott teammate Jose Angel Gomez Marchante fell ill.  The rest of the team will be Juan José Cobo (Sp) , Jesus del Nero (Sp), Alberto Fernandez de la Puebla (Sp), David de la Fuente (Sp) , Angel Litu Gomez (Sp) , Josep Jufre (Sp)  and Leonardo Piepoli (I).”
If Ricco had not stepped in, there might still be a Saunier Duval-Scott team today.
