The New York Times has a feature on Leadville 100 winner Dave Wiens today.
“The two men worked together for most of the race, taking turns in the lead, which put them 20 minutes ahead of the rest of the pack. In a scene they described afterward, Wiens moved aside with about 10 miles to go to let Armstrong take the lead as they headed onto an uphill trail. This time, however, Armstrong told Wiens: “No. Go. I’m done.”
Wiens, known to cheer on competitors even midrace, replied: “No. Come on.”

VeloNews is reporting this afternoon that Lance Armstrong may be returning to the pro peloton in 2009.
Anonymous sources have told VeloNews that Armstrong will join the Astana squad for no salary or bonuses and will race at the Amgen Tour of California, Paris-Nice, the Tour de Georgia, the Dauphine-Libere and the Tour de France. Vanity Fair magazine is said to have an exclusive article about this later in the month. This would be just in time for Lance to appear at Interbike to make a formal announcement.
