Today, Christopher Froome won at the summit of the Mont Ventoux. The British rider beat Nairo Quintana and Mikel Nieve. Jean-Christophe Péraud has clung on the final climb to stay as long as possible with best riders. Finally, the rider of the AG2R LA MONDIALE team finished 10th on this stage and he is 9th overall. He said after he crossed the line: “I really suffered and I started to have cramps at the end of the stage. I did everything I was able to do, I tried to hang on and to get out of the wind but finally I have been dropped. Climbing the Mont Ventoux is hard but it is even more difficult when you have to race during 240 km, with a bunch which ride fast, Europcar and Movistar who ride for the stage win, so the result is that we all really suffered!”
Christophe Riblon was once again present at the front of the race in a breakaway of 10 riders. They had a maximum advantage of 7 minutes but the bunch driven by Europcar and Movistar finally joined the escapees. Christophe Riblon said at the finish line: “It was important to be at the front today because you never know what might happen. Once again, the final result is not in my favour but that is how it is! As we didn’t want that Pierre Rolland, who was chasing, joined the breakaway, the Team Europcar decided to ride behind us. So, it gave some ideas to other teams for the stage win and it has scuppered the breakaway, it’s a pity.
