Road riding continues to evolve with the latest trend of gravel and all-road riding. I mean, at this point, gravel isn’t really a trend anymore, but the category continues to grow from repurposing of older products to new purpose built pieces. Reynolds new ATR wheels are made for riding all roads, but can still pull double duty for cross, road, or where ever your ride may take you.
The ATR is a purpose built disc carbon wheelset that falls into their All Road line up. The main difference between the ATR and a standard road wheel is the dimensions of the rim. At 32mm wide external, 23mm wide internal, and 40mm tall, the extra width allows you to run wider tires, along the lines of 37c and bigger. These larger tires can be more capable when the road gets rough, but also provides a bit of suspension with the ability to run lower air pressures.
The ATR is tubeless ready using their PR3 construction, which helps make for and even more responsive ride, along with the reliability of running without tubes. Reynolds balances durability, performance, and value, using specific carbon and resin layups to maximize each category.
The rest of the wheels is made up of 24 spokes front and rear and Reynolds All Road hubs that accept center lock discs only. The rear hub engages every 10 degrees giving it 36 engagement points. It’s not the fastest engaging hub on the market, but will still hook up quickly when you start pedaling. The ATR comes with inserts making them 12×100 and 15×100 thru-axle compatible in the front, and 12×142 rear. Additional inserts allow them to be run as quick release front and rear, or 12×135 rear. Available free hubs make them Shimano/SRAM 9-11 speed, Campy, and SRAM xD compatible.
At 1620g for 700c, 1550g for 650b, they aren’t the lightest, but they should offer plenty of durability. Reynolds offers a lifetime warranty, so if you have any issues, they have you covered.
