Whether you want dual or single sided power on your bike, Pioneer has you covered. We reviewed both options (Dual-Sided Ultegra 6800 / Left Side Only Cannondale SI Upgrade) and found they are solid power meters that provide all the usual info, and then some, in a very accurate manner. We prefer dual-sided for the road (and would love it for cross, hint, hint), and now you can get their latest Shimano dual-sided power meters at a lower price.
As they have continued their partnership with Lotto-Jumbo Pro Cycling, Pioneer has developed their HD Power Meters with HD Power Metrics. The team has pushed the brand to continue to develop the hardware and software to provide them with the data they need.
From the beginning, Pioneer has offered their HD Metrics when their power meter is paired with the brand’s head units. HD Metrics provides real-time data on how much power you are putting down and the direction of that power (force and torque vector) at 12 points around your pedal stroke for each side independently. It also provides metrics on pedaling efficiency information for each side, which can help you during training and racing to help gauge performance. At the end of your ride, you can download your info to their Cyclo-Sphere.com website to review in greater detail. There is a Cyclo-Sphere app on the way soon for mobile use.
“Our brand, engineering and manufacturing strengths from more than 75 years in consumer electronics enable us to deliver high-quality products and help any cyclist with a desire to improve,” said Russ Johnston, executive vice president of marketing and corporate communications for Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. “After five years in the cycling industry, the knowledge and experience we’ve gained, combined with our extensive manufacturing expertise has enabled us to reposition dual-leg power meter pricing and expand consumer accessibility to the advanced system.”
With the launch of Shimano’s newest groupsets, Pioneer added Dura-Ace 9100 and Ultegra 8000 cranks to their dual and single-sided line-up, along with their upgrade kits that customers can purchase to have the HD Power Meters added to their existing cranks. The Shimano Dura-Ace R9100 dual-sided power meter now retails for $1,299, and the Ultegra 8000 dual-sided power meters for $999. The Upgrade kit, which allows you to add dual-sided power to your existing Dura-Ace 9100/9000, Ultegra 8000/6800, and Campagnolo Potenza 11 cranks is now $799. You can also upgrade your cranks individually with their right and left side kits that come in at $579.99 and $499.99 respectively. The left side only kit adds 105 (FC-5800), XTR Trail (FC-M9020), XT (FC-M8000), and Cannondale Hollowgram Si and SiSL2 to the list of compatible crank arms we mentioned for the dual-sided kits.
