It’s a special year at the Tour de France with 100th anniversary of the yellow leader’s jersey and Continental is offering a special limited edition of their Competition LTD tubular tire to celebrate.
The Continental Pro LTD tubular tire, the special edition pro-only tire, can be found on many pro team bikes at the Tour, including Bahrain-Merida, Groupama-FDJ, Team Ineos, Team Katusha-Alpecin, Team Movistar, Team Sunweb and Wanty-Groupe Gobert. The Competition LTD can be considered its little brother, sharing the same tread pattern and construction, with the only difference being a latex tube in the Pro LTD and butyl in the Competition LTD.
The Competition LTD tubular uses an extra thin, 200tpi casing with a hand-sewn butyl rubber inner tube to provide a supple, yet responsive ride. Next is the patented Vectran breaker, a liquid-crystalline polymer to help protect the tube and prevent punctures. On the outside, the Competition LTD uses Continental’s premium BlackChili tread compound, providing outstanding grip. The tires were made at Continental’s Korbach, Germany facility, the same location as the Pro LTD.
Being the tire sponsor of the Tour de France (you might have noticed the guys wearing Continental shirts crowding around stage winners to protect them from the photogs), they partnered with the race to create this special edition with a yellow TdF flash on the label and special packaging. There will be 3,460 tires on offer, matching the number of kilometers that will be covered in this edition of the event.
If you’d like your own pair for a special build, find your local Continental dealer quick, because these will not last. Pricing is €106, and we’ll add USD once we have it.
