Cross is officially here in the US, and USA Cycling has announced the schedule for the 2019 Cyclocross National Championships. This year’s event at Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood, Washington, will host over 50 races. A total of 43 stars and stripes jerseys will be awarded starting December 10th and wrapping up on the 15th.
Tuesday through Saturday’s racing will cover the Masters, Collegiate, non-UCI Juniors, and other non-championship races. Sunday wraps up racing with the UCI Juniors, U23, Women’s, and Men’s Elite titles. Â Katie Compton (KFC Racing p/b Trek Knight) will be looking to extend her incredible streak of national championships to 16, while Stephen Hyde (Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com) can join Clark Natwick, Don Myrah, Jonathan Page, and Jeremy Powers with four national championships. Only Laurence Malone holds more with his five straight wins from 1975-1979.

USA Cycling has released the schedule for the 2019 Cyclocross National Championships which will take place at Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood, Wash. December 10-15, 2019. With new categories being added to this year’s schedule, over 50 competitions will be contested at Fort Steilacoom Park, Dec. 10-15, with 43 of those races crowning National Champions for the 2019 season.
Races will be held from dawn to dusk at Fort Steilacoom Park which has held several local regional and national-level cyclocross competitions over recent years. Located just outside of Tacoma, the location is a great destination for athletes and spectators alike. Besides watching the top cyclocross riders in the U.S. compete, fans will have free access to the USA Cycling Expo, the Athlete Zone, food trucks and a 21 & over beer garden.
“We’re excited to bring Cyclocross Nationals to Steilacoom Park for a return to the Pacific Northwest,” said Tara McCarthy, Director of National Events for USA Cycling, “The park offers a fantastic venue for nationals with a challenge course full of elevations changes and some fast, flat finishes. Working with Tacoma South Sound Sports Commission and MFG Cyclocross, this Nationals will have that Pacific Northwest flavor not to miss.”
Expected to attract nearly 1,400 competitors for the six-day event, competitions begin Tuesday, Dec. 10, with seven non-championship races for men and women, concluding the day with the first Stars-and-Stripes jerseys being awarded in our Masters 60+ Women’s Category and Master’s 70+ Men’s Category. The competition continues Wednesday with our Masters Men and Women taking center stage in the morning races finishing off the day with our Collegiate and Non-Championship Relays. Thursday will start with our Junior 11-12 Men Non-Championship Race and the day will continue with our Collegiate and Masters Men races. Friday will be an day full of Women’s racing starting with our Junior Women 11-12 Non Championship race followed by Collegiate and Masters Women. Saturday starts with our Industry races and then we will get a sneak peek into the future of Cyclocross as we watch our non-UCI Junior Categories compete, finally we will end the day with one of the most entertaining and exciting races of the week- the Men’s and Women’s Singlespeed races.
Sunday features the final showdown for the top Junior, U23 and Elite cyclocross racers in the country, many who will have competed in the USA Cycling Professional Cyclocross Calendar (ProCX) throughout the year. Among the athletes who are expected be on hand to defend their titles are reigning elite national champions Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo.; KFC Racing p/b Trek Knight) and Stephen Hyde (Easthampton, Mass.; Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com). Compton will go after her 16th consecutive title in the elite women‘s field. Hyde will set his sights on a fourth championship.
