Chloe Hosking wins Australian criterium title

  • Ron

Rally Cycling‘s road captain and newest signing Chloe Hosking notches an early season victory in her home country.

Following two stage wins and the overall victory at the Bay Crits Series in Geelong, Australia to open the 2020 season, Hosking entered the Australian Road Championships as the odds on favorite for the crown.

The one hour race in Ballarat, was held under stormy skies and wet roads, where Hosking sprinted to victory in a photo finish ahead of Ruby Roseman-Gannon (Brunswick Club), and Gracie Elvin (Mitchelton-Scott). The result was Hosking’s first elite title of her storied career that includes over 30 UCI victories.

“This is my first elite national jersey despite being around forever so it’s nice,” said Hosking. “It was tight but a win is a win. I’m a national champion!”

Hosking will be splitting her time between Australia, Europe, and North America in 2020, a shift from seasons past.

“It was important to me this year,” Hosking said. “I’m going to America with an American team, , and we do a lot of criteriums over there. So I really wanted to take the crit jersey over to race and show it off.”

Criteriums are part of the North American racing culture and feature in many of the premier stage races that Hosking will take part in.

“I think it’s probably one of the best countries to do it in because they have such great crowds and a really great, strong criterium scene, something that is sort of lacking in Europe,” said Hosking. “So, why not?”

Hosking will be joined by teammates -Hickok, , Leigh Ann Ganzar, and  for the upcoming Santos ‘s from January 16-19.
