German brand Lightweight, makers of premium carbon fiber road wheels, has extended the warranty on their disc brake wheels for up to five years. Retroactive to wheels purchased starting July 1st, 2020, the warranty has you covered for an additional three years over the previous warranty.
Wheels included in the new five year warranty are the Meilenstine T24 Disc and Evo climbing/all-around wheels, Fernweg C 63 Disc, and Evo 63 and 85 for flatter days and Triathlon/TT, and Wegweiser Evo all-around wheels.
“We are convinced of the quality of our Made in Germany wheels and would like to emphasize this promise of quality by extending the warranty”, says Christoph Sawitzki, Head of Sales & Marketing. “But the extended manufacturer’s warranty is also a clear signal to our dealers, because the extended manufacturer’s warranty is of course always in addition to the statutory warranty.”
All Lightweight disc wheels come with their Pentagon hub. Instead of a traditional round internal hub shape, the Pentagon hub has fives sides that the internals fit into. This locks the internals into the hub shell, meaning there is no way that they could potentially slip inside, which could lead to a loss of braking ability. It’s a novel design that makes a lot of sense, especially when working with a mix of metal and carbon that is bonded together.
To test the Pentagon hub, Lightweight sent a set of Meilenstein disc wheels to another well known German brand, Magura. They asked the brake manufacturer to run the wheels through their full-load braking test that takes wheels from 50kph to a complete stop under full load. Lightweight set a new record at over 8,000 stops, and Magura kept testing until they hit over 20,000 repetitions without failure. To put it into perspective, 6,000-7,000 was the previous record. The wheels were returned to Lightweight for examination, only to find that they were unchanged from when they were first sent to Magura.

Meilenstein and Fernweg wheels are available in standard or Schwarz Edition that includes all black logos and CeramicSpeed ceramic bearings. The Evo moniker denotes wheelsets that are tubeless ready. All disc wheelsets are available as a set, or single front and rear wheels.
Keep in mind, the warranty only covers manufacturer’s defects. Damage from a crash, misuse, modification, or the wearing out of consumable parts like the bearings, are not included.
