Zeno’s Q-Connector Hydraulic Couplers Get Smaller, Easier to Use

I’ll admit it, I’m a HUGE fan of Zeno‘s Q-Connector hydraulic couplers. If you are running a with completely internal routing through your handlebars, stem, and into the , they make servicing your bike so much easier. Even if your hydraulic lines are partially internal or completely external, they are a great solution to be able to split your hydraulic lines without having to bleed your brakes after you reconnect. Their new V2 Q-Connector couplers are smaller and easier to reconnect, and I can’t wait to get my hands on them.

There are plenty of reasons why you would need to disconnect your hydraulic lines, especially with today’s completely bikes. Servicing your headset, changing handlebars or stems, packing your bike for shipping, of these could require you to disconnect the hydraulic line at the caliper or the lever, pull the line through as far as you need to for whatever service you are doing, and then feed it back through, reconnect, and bleed the system to remove any air that has crept in.

With Zeno’s Q-Connector system, when you disconnect their couplers, they are sealed and will not let air in or oil out. Even if you try and grab the brake levers, they are pressurized and will not allow you to squeeze them in as there is no where for the fluid to go. When you reconnect the couplers, air is pushed out and it’s like they were never disconnected. Having used a with standard lines, and then adding the Q-Connector system, I felt no difference in brake feel.

V1 used larger connectors and a clip that needed to be inserted into slots on the sides of the one connector to hold the inserted connector in place. While it works great, it was sometimes hard to get the little clip in place while also trying to hold the to connectors together. On my test bike, these connectors sit inside of the opening in the headset spacers, and sometimes needed some finagling to get everything assembled and fit into place.

The new version gets smaller and easier to connect. V2 is now 45% smaller, and are about 6.5mm in outer diameter. That is just barely larger the hydraulic line itself. The smaller connectors make it easier to hide these inside of the frame, headset spacers, stem, or handlebars. Instead of a clip to hold them in place, the connectors now have a notch that slides into a channel on the other side so you can insert, twist, and release, and they are locked in place. The new design should make it even easier to connect the couplers. Here’s a video from Zeno to show how it works.

The couplers will be available in various kits, including specific hydraulic lines for and systems. Based on the current versions offerings, the individual lines with the couplers attached to one end will extend the full length of your bike, so you can place the connection where you want, trim the lines down, and then add the appropriate barbs to connect them with your levers or calipers.

The Q-Connector system is continuing to gain traction in the industry, and in my opinion, is something that OEM’s should consider for all internally routed bikes. But even if they don’t, Zeno has a new shop kit that comes with couplers for DOT and mineral oil systems and a wrench that can be used to add those couplers to stock hydraulic lines. That means your local shop can cut the hydraulic lines as they are assembling your bike, add the couplers, and make life easier for whoever services your bike in the future. It’s definitely worth mentioning to your favorite shop.

Pricing is not available yet, but availability will be coming in Q4 2025. New M8 fittings for calipers and MTB brake levers, along with accessories like volume adjusters, are in the works for the near future, and should be available by the end of the year. We’ll have some early production samples coming soon to get added to our test bikes, along with a cool project involving multiple cockpits for a frame from Ceepo to swap from a road bike to a TT bike.
