Steel – Reinvented.

Steel is legacy. This material has been the cornerstone of both cycling history and Colnago’s own tradition up to the late 1990s. Every tube and joint is meticulously welded and brazed, echoing the richness of Italian frame-building craftsmanship. Iconic steel models, such as the Super (1968), Mexico (1972), Master (1982), and Arabesque (1983), remain sought after by collectors and connoisseurs worldwide.

Steel remembers. It’s not a slogan, it’s a material truth. Within its grain, in its vibrations and elastic response, lies the memory of every gesture that shaped it. That’s what gives steel its unmistakable, deeply satisfying ride feel.

With Steelnovo, steel is reinvented. Through an innovative production process that harnesses the of additive manufacturing, utilizing 3D-printed internal lugs, Colnago reimagines tradition. The essence of steel’s memory and sensation meets seamless, contemporary design, creating a bicycle that feels timeless yet entirely modern — a steel bike built for the future.

Truly Niche Production, Proudly 100% Italian

The Steelnovo is crafted entirely in Italy, relying on a network of highly specialized partners. collaborated closely on the design of the steel tubes, while Additiva refined the 3D-printing process to meet Colnago’s exacting standards.

This meticulous production process involves multiple stakeholders and demands both precision and time. Each frame requires a full working day to complete, and annual production is intentionally limited to just 400 pieces, underscoring its exclusivity and artisanal quality.

Seamless, Future-Proof Design Through Additive Technology

The Steelnovo’s design emphasizes clean, essential tube shapes that integrate seamlessly, made possible by fully 3D-printed lugs and joints. This includes the top and bottom head tube connections, seat tube–top tube and seat stay junctions, rear dropouts, and other custom components. Every detail is considered, from fully integrated cable routing to bespoke headset parts and a seatpost-clamp system incorporated into the seat stays, reflecting Colnago’s commitment to both performance and elegance.

Achieving such a modern, integrated design requires cutting-edge production technology. Advanced enables the creation of complex, surface-modeled joints that are hollow internally, minimizing weight without compromising strength. Colnago collaborated with Additiva, a Modena-based Italian leader in additive manufacturing, renowned for its expertise in high-end motorsport applications. Through multiple iterations and refinements, this partnership produced a comprehensive suite of 3D-printed joints, delivering a robust, perfectly aligned frame with a competitive weight — a fully integrated, oversized steel frame that is both contemporary and enduring.
