Fizik has added 3 exciting stripped-back saddles as part of the new R1 light range. Their minimalist design means each saddle is roughly 17% lighter than the prior R1 range. Fizik has been at the forefront of saddle design for decades; the release and subsequent popularity of the original Arione even prompted the UCI to change its rules around saddle size. While Fizik and the wider market have recently leaned into 3D printed saddles as the peak of innovation in the space, the new R1 light range demonstrates that progress doesn’t need to come from a printer.
Alex Locatelli, Fizik Brand Manager: “The R1 light range represents a combination of our leading performance technologies to make a new line of saddles that is perfect for any use case. With the R1 light range, we set out to offer high performance made traditionally, which combines decades of our experience in the saddle space.

Engineered for low weight and high-performance riding, R1 Light architecture combines a carbon-reinforced nylon shell with ultra-stiff carbon rails for a responsive, lightweight platform. Raw EVA padding delivers low-profile, reactive cushioning that maintains comfort and support without sacrificing the ergonomic shape or increasing thickness. The result? The bare essentials: a minimal carbon structure with a bare EVA foam layer. Nothing you don’t need. A saddle that reduces weight without compromise – ideal for long, fast days on the saddle.
This new saddle architecture comes in three versions of existing saddles in the Fizik lineup. You can find details on these models below, but it is key to note that the R1 light platform is a new combination of Fiziks’ proven performance technologies. The rails, base, and padding from Fiziks’ current top-performing high-end ranges have been combined to make a new range.
TEMPO ALIANTE R1 LIGHT
First launched over two decades ago, the Aliante saddle took the cycling world by storm in 2003 with its innovative design that prioritized rider comfort, so much so that it was even nicknamed “le sofa” in France, and it has been supporting long-distance cyclists ever since. Aliante is a lightweight endurance road saddle with a waved profile, built for lasting comfort and with new raw EVA foam padding, carbon rails, and a pressure-relieving cutout in the R1 configuration it is sure to keep rides smooth.
VENTO ARGO R1 LIGHT
Argo is Fizik’s most versatile saddle shape and each version suits different riding styles. As the racing option, Argo R1 light has been engineered to deliver a riding feel that suits race bikes with aggressive geometry and in the R1 light configuration is paired with lightweight raw EVA padding and carbon rails to make it even more suited to racing.
VENTO ANTARES R1 LIGHT
It’s a saddle that’s appeared in nearly every Grand Tour of the past two decades, earning top podium spots in the Tour de France, the Giro, and the Vuelta over and over again, and it’s only getting better with age. The new R1 light Antares features a streamlined shape with a tapered nose-to-wing transition, paired with lightweight raw EVA padding and carbon rails to deliver a responsive ride in any competitive condition.
