Continental Adds Width For GP5000 S TR and TT TR Tires

The Continental 5000’s are already some of the best tires in the world. Half of the World Tour are riding them for 2026, including Tadej Pogačar and UAE Team Emirates XRG. The Grand Prix is a historic name in tires too, going back to the early 1980’s, and one that will continue on into the future. For now, the German brand is launching new sizes in the GP5000S TR and GP5000 TT TR tires.

The trend of wider tires on the road doesn’t seem to be slowing down, with most new road bikes able to handle tires into low to mid-30mm ranges, and trial bikes even starting to accept ties into the 30’s. Part of it is decreased rolling resistance, but also grip and comfort. As tires get wider, the contact patch changes, and volume increases, which helps to provide these enhancements in your ride. And just when you think we have found the right balance, brands bring out new sizes to push the boundaries further.

For the GP5000 S TR, the brand’s all around tire with a focus of being light and fast, yet reliable, the new size is 35mm. The goal was to create a tire that helps to increase comfort. By going to a 35mm tire, is able to reduce vibration by allowing for lower tire pressures without hurting or protection, allowing you to ride longer and feel fresher. The new size is claimed to weigh in at 380g per tire.

For the GP5000 TT TR, Continental’s all out speed version which is lighter and has less rolling resistance at the expense of some of the protection seen on the S TR, the new 30mm width provides a larger contact patch for more grip, giving riders the confidence to push harder through the corners, and more comfort with a larger volume over narrower tires in the range. The 30mm is claimed to weigh 280g.

“We recognize that the needs of the modern are ever-evolving, and by extending our GP5000 offering, we are ensuring that every rider, from elite professionals to endurance enthusiasts, has the perfect tire for their setup,” explained Hannah Ferle, Road Product Manager, Continental Tires. “These new sizes are a direct response to the shift toward high-volume tires, where the benefits of reduced rolling resistance, enhanced vibration dampening, and a larger contact area are no longer just for comfort, but for . With the introduction of the 35mm S TR and 30mm TT TR, we are proving that riders seeking a more supple, confident ride do not have to sacrifice speed. These extensions allow riders to optimize their tire pressure and grip to match the demands of their ride.”
