Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Trek Cyclocross Collective) was crowned on Sunday in Nommay, France, after topping the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup standings for the second year in a row. Sunday’s race marked the seventh and final race of the 2013-14 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup calendar. The Americans earned several top-20 results on Sunday, including Kaitlin Antonneau’s (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com) seventh-place result.
Many of the Americans competing in Sunday’s race will represent the United States on Feb. 1-2, in Hoogerheide, Netherlands at the 2014 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships.
Elite Women
Each of the three American finishers of the elite women’s race placed within the top 20 of the field. Antonneau produced a top-10 result by finishing seventh in the Nommay race. Antonneau completed the race 2:54 behind the winner, Marianne Vos (NED), who stopped the clock at 44:16. Helen Wyman (GBR) claimed the silver medal after finishing 1:32 behind Vos. Eva Lechner (ITA) earned the bronze medal after finishing 14 seconds behind Wyman.
Meredith Miller (Boulder, Colo./California Giant Berry Farms-Specialized) was the next American to cross the finish line as she placed 12th, 4:07 behind Vos. Elle Anderson (San Francisco, Calif./California Giant Berry Farms-Specialized) was only 25 seconds behind Miller to place 18th.
Compton, who did not finish Sunday’s race, claimed the top spot of the UCI Cylo-cross World Cup standings for the second consecutive year. Compton finished the season with 350 points. Nikki Harris (GBR) finished in second place with 284 points while Vos was third with 270 points. After her performance on Sunday, Antonneau finished the season with 115 points to place 11th in the standings. Miller was 15th with 92 points. Arley Kemmerer (Saylorsburg, Pa./C3-Twenty20 Cycling) and Crystal Anthony (Beverly, Mass./Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) were 26th and 27th in the final standings with 44 and 42 points, respectively. Anderson finished the season with 26 points to place 32nd. Maureen Bruno-Roy (Arlington, Mass./Bob’s Red Mill p/b Seven Cycles) and Nicole Duke (Boulder, Colo./Marin Bikes-Spy) each tallied eight points to place 51st and 52nd, respectively. Christine Vardaros (Wyckoff, N.J./Stevens Cycling Team) posted two points while Courtenay McFadden (Bellingham, Wash./Bicycle Blue Book-HRS-Rock Lobster) recorded one point through the season.
Elite Men
Jeremy Powers (Easthampton, Mass./Rapha-Focus), who was crowned the national champion on Jan. 12 in Boulder, placed 15th in the elite men’s race on Sunday. Powers finished the race 2:26 behind the winner Tom Meeusen (BEL), who won a sprint over Francis Mourey (FRA). Meeusen and Mourey each finished the race in 1:00:45. Philipp Walsleben (GER) rode away with the bronze medal after he finished the race only five seconds behind the leaders. Jonathan Page (Northfield, N.H./Fuji-Spyoptics), who placed 23rd on Sunday, was 3:12 behind Mourey. Tim Johnson (Topsfield, Mass./Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com) crossed the line 4:37 behind Mourey to finish 31st. Ryan Trebon (Bend, Ore./Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com) was the next American to finish the race as he stopped the clock 6:23 behind Meeusen to place 45th. Jeremy Durrin (Easthampton, Mass./Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) and Allen Krughoff (Boulder, Colo./Raleigh Clement) also contested Sunday’s race in France.
Page was the top-ranked American in the world cup standings. Page finished the season with 136 points to place 29th overall. Powers recorded 36 points to place 51st. Johnson tallied 20 points to finish 67th while Durrin amassed 10 points to place 81st. Trebon posted six points to complete the season in 88th place. Zach McDonald (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Rapha-Focus) tallied five points to finish the season in 92nd place. Lars Van Der Haar (NED) topped the final standings with 467 points. Walsleben edged Niels Albert for second place. Walsleben completed the season with 409 points while Albert totaled 392 points through the season.
U23 Men
Newly-crowned U23 national champion Logan Owen (Bremerton, Wash./California Giant Berry Farms-Specialized) as the top American rider in the U23 men’s race after placing 15th. Wout Van Aert (BEL) topped the 46-rider field with a time of 54:20. Mathieu Van Der Poel (NED), who topped the overall season standings with 385 points, finished second, only 12 seconds behind the winner. Michael Vanthourenhout (BEL) claimed the bronze medal after completing his race in 54:54. Yannick Eckmann (Boulder, Colo./California Giant Berry Farms-Specialized) and Curtis White (Delanson, N.Y./Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com) were in 30th and 32nd places, respectively.
Owen ended the season in 22nd place in the overall standings with 67 points. White was in 40th place with 15 total points.
