Yuba Bicycles announces product upgrades and new add-ons for Boda Boda cargo bike

  • Ron

Yuba Bicycles has updated its popular Boda Boda cargo bike for 2014 and created new Add-Ons that help bicyclists accessorize their bikes for carrying children, adult passengers, groceries or even a surfboard. The new Boda Boda will be available for purchase in April and consumers can test ride it, along with other Yuba cargo bikes and electric bikes, at the Sea Otter Classic, April 10-13.

The 2014 Boda Boda, $999, comes in a new color, Step-Over Red, and features:

  • A re-designed rear cargo and passenger rack compatible with popular Yepp brand child seats
  • New Bread Basket mounts for improved handling and removal
  • Freedom Cruz “Cream” tires
  • Rear disc brake tabs for extra braking power
  • New handlebars and saddles
  • Removable Love Handle side loaders for easier and more affordable shipping.

Unlike other cargo bike makers, Yuba offers a full range of Add-Ons that allow customers and shops to tailor each bike to the user’s specific demands. The newest Add-On is The Ring, a passenger handle that attaches to the rear rack. Yuba will also launch a new surfboard and standup paddleboard carrying mount in 2014. Founder Benjamin Sarrazin is a noted paddleboard racer who won the Tahoe SUP Cup and Payette River Games last year, and he can frequently be seen carrying his board to the water in Petaluma.

“Last year was a tremendous year of growth for Yuba,” says Sarrazin, noting increased sales and widespread media coverage including front-page exposure in the Wall Street Journal. “For 2014 we are continuing to expand our product line and tweak our bike designs in response to consumer feedback, with the goal of helping more people get on cargo bikes and enjoy a healthier, more sustainable and fun lifestyle.”

Yuba has also expanded and redesigned the retail shop at its Petaluma headquarters and continues to grow its local bike advocacy initiatives. Yuba is donating four Mundos (two Boda Bodas and two Mundos) to the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition for use at events and as part of the coalition’s bike loan program.

“Yuba helped the Bicycle Coalition organize the very first KIDical Mass family bike ride in Sonoma County and they have been great allies to bicycle advocacy ever since they moved to Petaluma,” says Aileen Carroll, outreach director for the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition.

Yuba cargo bikes are sold in Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and across North America. In addition to its Boda Boda and Mundo pedal bikes, Yuba also offers two electric bikes, the el Mundo and el Boda Boda, plus a full range of Add-Ons including child seats, oversized grocery-getter bags, double-kickstands, foot pegs and more.
