Twenty16 Pro Cycling to ride two stage of Amgen Tour of California

  • Ron

TWENTY16 Pro Cycling presented by Breakaway from Cancer® will be competing in two stages of Amgen Tour of California. The women’s races are sponsored by SRAM, a strong supporter of women’s cycling and the TWENTY16 team.  The athletes will contest a circuit race and an invitational time trial.

TWENTY16 Pro Cycling has a history of supporting events connected with Breakaway from Cancer® .  For the last four years, the team has been involved with the Dempsey Challenge presented by Amgen, which is a fundraising opportunity for the Patrick Dempsey Center for Hope and Healing in Lewiston, Maine.  “This opportunity to bring attention to Amgen’s Breakaway from Cancer® is very close to my heart,” commented Nicola Cranmer, General Manager of TWENTY16, “my dear friend Pete Blanco passed away from cancer 6 months ago.  We are proud to join the Breakaway from Cancer® team to help those affected by cancer and contribute to building the world’s largest cancer support team. AEG and Amgen Tour of California are providing a strong media platform for the women’s racing with coverage on Tour Tracker and highlights on television. It is important that the team conveys a message of hope for those suffering from cancer and to show our support of Breakaway from Cancer®”

As a cancer survivor, TWENTY16 head mechanic, Vincent Gee, knows all too well the heavy toll that fighting cancer can take.  “The team’s partnership with Breakaway from Cancer® is important because cancer needs awareness and we need to spread the word about it to inform and educate people about testing and early detection.  Initially, I didn’t know how to talk about it, and I quickly utilized the network that I had available to me.  I needed to have other voices tell me it was okay, and that there were other people affected like me.  I hope to be the next person to help someone dealing with cancer like I did.”  TWENTY16 presented by Breakaway from Cancer® is proud to have a champion as a mechanic.

“Amgen’s Breakaway from Cancer® is excited to partner with TWENTY16 Professional Women’s Cycling Team for the Amgen Tour of California women’s races because just as it takes a team to win a race, it takes a team to fight cancer,” stated Kathryn West, Advocacy Director at Amgen.  “We are proud to partner with TWENTY16 presented by Breakaway from Cancer® to continue to increase awareness of the important resources and services available to people affected by cancer.”
