Chris Anker abandons 2014 Giro d’Italia

Chris Anker Sørensen has together with the Sport Directors and the team doctor decided to abandon Giro d’Italia after his violent crash on the 11th stage, where he despite his injuries fought his way to the finish line.

Chris Anker Sørensen injured his hand and arm and had a concussion as a result of the crash, which happened after 70 kilometers of the stage. Chris started to have light headaches during the night after the stage. The Tinkoff-Saxo team doctor monitored him closely during the night waking him up several times. Chris responded normally but didn’t sleep well during the night.

All neurological tests of Chris Anker are normal but the Dane still feels the effects of the mild concussion that together with the full body wounds would make it difficult for him to continue in the ITT and following stages of Giro d’Italia.

Chris will stay with the team and team doctor until Friday before heading home. He has to rest and recover for three days before starting up with some light training again.
