Zipp expands Tangente tire offerings

  • Ron

Challenging the conventional wisdom that skinny tires are faster, Zipp expands their Tangente tire line with 28c and 30c options.

The conventional wisdom on bicycle tires long held that smaller and skinnier was better. Smaller tires were supposed to be lighter, and have lower rolling resistance. Then came science. Research has shown that a larger tire with a larger contact patch has the ability to cut rolling resistance, making you faster than you would be with a traditional 23mm-wide racing tire. And of course, a larger tire offers improved grip in dry and wet conditions. Comfort gets a big upgrade as well.

All of this has lead Zipp to expand their line of high-performance Tangente tires with three new options: The Tangente Course R28 and R30, and the race-ready Tangente Speed R28.

TANGENTE COURSE R28 AND R30

Zipp is introducing the Tangente Course R28 and R30 tires to give riders a high-performance clincher at widths suitable for less than perfect conditions—rough roads, wet roads. The looming disc-brake revolution will mean that you can run tires much larger than the 25mm widths that many bikes are currently limited to. The Course is a tire that takes disc brakes’ opportunity for increased tire width and multiplies that by delivering faster rolling and better grip.

TANGENTE SPEED R28

Some of the greatest roads in cycling aren’t particularly well paved. Sometimes, the fact that they aren’t manicured like a golf green is part of the charm. Or maybe all of it. Today’s bikes, handlebars and other components are stiffer than ever, but the emergence of disc-brake technology has created an opportunity for riders to run a high-performance 28mm clincher. The Speed R28 is a chance to double down on traction while trimming rolling resistance and improving comfort on long days.

We’ve introduced the Speed R28 to give riders a race-ready tire for those days when you want all the performance of a top-of-the-line racing clincher at a pavéswallowing width. Wet or dry, it combines the grip of a bigger contact patch plus the reduced rolling resistance that comes with a larger casing.
