Pirelli Launches PZero Velo Performance Tires

Pirelli is well known for making performance tires for automobiles and motorcycles, but the Italian brand is looking to bring their technology and heritage back to cycling with the PZero Velo line of performance road tires. To start off with, Pirelli will be releasing three versions, two for racing, and one for all-season use.

Whether you knew it or not, Pirelli has a long history with cycling. The brand partnered with the organizers of the 1909 Giro d’Italia and 30 of the 49 finalists used their tires. Pirelli was also the tire of choice for Fausto Coppi while riding for Bianchi.

“We are excited about this return to cycling,” says Antonella Lauriola, COO Business Unit Velo Pirelli. “For our bike tires, we draw on a unique heritage of knowledge, technology, and sporting experience. Pirelli’s offer today is completed with tires made for those consumers who look for innovative and technological bike products as they do for their cars and bikes. We chose to start from the racing segment, which is the most challenging in technical terms, but also the most consistent with our race-marked history. ”

Along with technology borrowed from their other racing categories, Pirelli will also be using similar color codes to their Formula One tires. Silver badging will represent the Road Racing tire, red badging for Time Trail tire, and blue badging for Four Seasons tires. Not many details have been released yet, but it is safe to say each tire will have a unique rubber compound, design, and tread pattern to match their intended usage.

The tires are scheduled to be available in September, but we should get more info mid-June and they will be presented at Eurobike this summer.
