2018 Vuelta a Espana: Stage 16 Results

  • Ron

Time trial specialist Rohan Dennis won Stage 16 of the 2018 Vuelta a Espana, a 32km individual time trial from Santallina del Mar to Torrelavega. Dennis was the favorite for the stage and set the early time to beat. Of course, the most pressure for the stage rested on the shoulders of race leader Simon Yates, who wanted to keep a solid gap over the rest of the GC contenders for the final week of the race.

The only real threat to Yates’ lead came from LottoNL-Jumbo’s Steven Kruijswijk, who set a time of 38’48”. Kruijswijk started the day 1’23” back from Yates, and a week showing by Yates could have turned the tables on the race.

Still, Yates turned in a time of 39’25”, ceding only 37 seconds to Kruijswijk and held onto his lead with a 33″ advantage over Alejandro Valverde.
