Ibis launches versatile, affordable new carbon hardtail

  • Ron

Inspired by his high school XC racing daughter Lili, Ibis CEO Hans Heim set out to build a bike versatile enough for her to race and shred, but affordable enough that she could pay for it with her summer job. The result is Ibis’ new lightweight carbon 29′ hardtail, the DV9.

The DV9 delivers unprecedented versatility with slacker-than-XC (what Ibis is calling Downcountry) geometry and massive tire clearance. As such, Ibis is offering the DV9 with two distinct build kits.

The raceday build includes a 100mm Fox Step-Cast fork with remote lockout and smoother rolling 2.25″ rubber. The race build has already proven successful, as Heim’s daughter rode it to three wins, five podiums and the overall title in the Northern California NICA league series.

The downcountry build specs a 120mm Fox Rhythm 34 fork and physics defying 2.6″ tires.

The 1204g full carbon frame retails at a nearly unheard of $999. Complete builds start at $2,199 with an Eagle NX-based groupset and top out at $7499 for an Eagle XX1 build. All are shipping now.

The frame sports 148mm BOOST spacing in the rear, allowing those wide tires. Routing for an integrated dropper post is included along with two bottle cage mounts, versatile cable ports and a 1x specific threaded bottom bracket.

Compared to IBIS’ previous hardtail, the reach on the DV9 grew by 20-24mm depending on size. They also slackened the head tube from 71° to 67.4° with a 120mm fork and 68.5° with a 100mm fork.
