Organizers of the Breck Epic announced today that the race, holding its 11th edition in 2019, will receive the Class 1 (S1) inscription from the UCI, cycling’s international governing body. Scheduled for August 11-16, 2019, in Breckenridge, Colorado, the 6-day mountain bike stage race will offer a minimum cash purse of $30,000 and valuable UCI points to participants in the elite men’s and women’s fields.

“We’re going to use modern technology to communicate the drama of a high-altitude, multi-day stage race to a worldwide audience in real time and in high definition,” offers Epic’s Mike McCormack, “Aligning with the UCI attracts the world’s fastest riders. We’re going to pit them against each other on a supremely stunning race course.”

“We are excited to see the continued growth of the Breck Epic, and its inclusion on the UCI’s International Calendar as well as USA Cycling’s ProXCT Calendar; rewarding riders, spectators, and the Breckenridge community,” said Chuck Hodge, USA Cycling chief of racing and events. “The race is truly epic, with challenging courses taking place on the incredibly interconnected trails of Summit County and the Rocky Mountains. It’s a true highlight on the ProXCT.”

The race’s elevated prestige holds other surprises in store for both attendees and spectators. The addition of a tech area for team setups allows fans to mingle with cycling’s brightest stars. Casual fans will enjoy Breckenridge’s incredible dining, culture and art scene while the adventurous can utilize Epic’s spectator guidebook for green, blue and double-black diamond race watching opportunities.

The event also welcomes the inaugural InterBreck Expo, an endurance and backcountry focused demo and expo area taking place in the heart of Breck’s vibrant arts district midweek (August 13-15.) Those eager to ride the latest and greatest industry offerings will find lap after lap of nearby trails to enjoy, including several legal e-bike singletrack options.
