  • Ron

Team Novo Nordisk and Wahoo Fitness announced that Wahoo will be the team’s official technical partner for smart trainers, heart rate monitors, and bike computers through the 2020 season.

Team Novo Nordisk athletes use the entire Wahoo training ecosystem. During competition, the riders will rely upon Wahoo’s aerodynamically tested ELEMNT BOLT GPS Bike Computer and TICKR Heart Rate monitor. For warmups and indoor training, the team will use Wahoo’s KICKR smart trainers, KICKR HEADWIND smart fan, KICKR CLIMB grade simulator, and KICKR desk.

“Wahoo is pushing the limits across their entire product line, which ensures our riders and coaches have the most advanced and reliable indoor training and computer system available,” said Team Novo Nordisk CEO and Co-Founder Phil Southerland. “Wahoo started in Atlanta and we are proudly an Atlanta-based team, so this partnership feels natural. We believe together we can us push the limits of what’s possible with diabetes and keep inspiring, educating and empowering everyone affected by the condition.”

The Wahoo brand is known for innovation, quality, and performance and is the choice for elite athletes around the world, including Tour de France winners, UCI road race world champions and Ironman world champions.

“We’re excited to be able to support a group of athletes who are equally committed to winning races at the highest levels of cycling as they are to providing inspiration to everyone affected by diabetes and raising awareness of the importance of exercise to lead a healthy life,” said Wahoo CEO and Founder Chip Hawkins. “Having pro riders using our KICKR Smart Trainer and TICKR products allows these athletes to track performance and guide training while racing at the top levels of professional cycling. Thanks to BOLT’s aerodynamic design, Team Novo Nordisk riders can feel confident that riding with our GPS computer will give them a competitive advantage in all of their races this season and next.”

The KICKR wheel-off smart trainer offers the most realistic road feel of any smart trainer currently available, allowing athletes to simulate outdoor riding while training indoors. The KICKR CLIMB grade simulator will enable athletes to realistically replicate the courses they will encounter during the season, and the KICKR HEADWIND smart fan will help athletes maintain an optimal core temperature while training. Team Novo Nordisk riders will also use the aerodynamic, easy-to-use ELEMNT BOLT bike computer, and the TICKR Heart Rate Monitor. Both devices measure critical race-winning efforts and allow the team to refine their training and racing strategies.

Team Novo Nordisk kicks off its 2019 racing season later this month with two races–the Tour du Rwanda (Feb 24-Mar 3rd), where Spaniard David Lozano won Stage 7 and took fifth overall last year, and the inaugural UAE Tour (Feb 24 – March 2nd).
