French brand Look has announced new time trial handlebar extensions. The Aergo blends their expertise in carbon construction with a new level of ergonomics and adjustability. After months of testing and development with Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD), in the wind tunnel and on the velodrome with the French National team, they will be raced this weekend at Ironman Australia by Denis Chevrot.
“With the Aergo, I know that the fine adjustment that is possible puts me in the best position aerodynamically, while subjecting the least amount of stress on my body for the duration of the ride,” explains Chevrot. “This means I get the fastest possible time in the bike split, while entering the run as fresh as I can be.”
With their sleek and sculpted shape, the Aergo offers a wide range of adjustability. Consisting of a base bar and extensions, the package offers height, length, width, and multiple angle adjustments to find your perfect fit. Whether you are looking to win your next time trial, or set a new PR at your next triathlon, the Aergo will help get you in the perfect position and keep you comfortable there.
Starting at the back, the forearm pads are sculpted to cradle your arms, but also extend further than most pads to provide further support. As you move forward, the extensions are sculpted to present an aerodynamic shape throughout the range of adjustments. At the front, the grip portion of the extensions can be adjusted anywhere between a flat, straight grip to a ski bend.
When it comes to adjustability, there are six total areas.
Arm Pad With – 95mm to 205mm
Arm Pad Front/Back – -27mm to +27mm
Arm Pad Height – 0mm to 55mm
Extension Angle (Horizontal) – 0 degrees to 7 degrees inward
Extension Angle (Vertical) – 0 degrees to 70 degrees upward
Extension Tip Angle – 0 degrees to 75 degrees upward
The new Aergo extensions are available in three versions.
The Road 31.8 Aeroflat is a base bar and extensions combo that is compatible with traditional stems for 31.8mm bars on road and time trial bikes. It features routing for electronic and mechanical drivetrains and a specific lay-up to provide comfort on the road. With a 400mm base bar, the system is $1290.
The Track 31.8 Aeroflat is made for racing on the track. It maintains the same compatibility with traditional stems, but removes the cable routing and has a specific layup to increase stiffness for ultimate performance. Pricing is the same as the road version with a 400mm base bar.
The 796 Aeroflat is designed specifically for the Look 796 Monoblade Time Trail bike, and offers up to 25mm of base bar drop using a unique interface with the bike’s stem. The upgrade for the 796 comes in at $990
There are two bridges that can be used with the Aergo extensions. The UCI legal bridge is a flat connector between the two pads. The optional triathlon version ($199) has a spot for a water bottle and a computer mount that extends to the front that is compatible with Garmin, Wahoo, and Polar.
In one of it’s lightest configurations (minimal stack, uncut extensions, and no bridge), the Aergo weighs in at 790g. The 796 specific version starts off at around 730 grams. To compare, the 3T Vola base bar and extensions combo comes in at about 725g, but is not nearly as adjustable to dial in your fit.
