Handup Gloves – A Handup for All Seasons

When Handup Gloves started, they were all about making simple gloves that are functional and fun. As their gloves have taken off, customers have asked for different gloves for different seasons and even different sports, and Handup has answered. Along with their gloves for most days, they have added gloves for hot days, cold days, colder days, snow sports, golf, and all kinds of apparel. I’ve used all four of their cycling gloves over the last few seasons, so here is the scoop.

Most Days

The original, Handup’s gloves for most days.

Let’s start with the original. The glove for most days, their standard glove, hasn’t changed much since I last reviewed them, and that’s a good thing. It’s still my go-to glove from the 50’s F through the 80’s F. It doesn’t matter what kind of riding I’m doing, I always wear their full finger gloves, and never felt like my hands were overheating. The 4-way stretch back is mated up with a durable Clarino leather palm and silicone grip printing to add some fun and functionality. Most of the thumb is a sweat towel to help take care of any drips or snotty noses, which is a really nice touch. Handup continues to bring out more designs to help you match your favorite kit or add some flare to your ride.

Cold and Colder Days

Handup ColdER Gloves

For riding in colder temps, I have their original cold gloves and the newer ColdER gloves. The first iteration added a fleece backing to the glove with their standard palm. This added some warmth, but Handup knew they needed something a little warmer for the cold days. The Cold gloves fill the gap just below the Most Days gloves but aren’t quite warm enough for really cold days. The standard Palm helps to keep a direct contact feel with your bars but doesn’t quite insulate your hands for the bitter cold days.

The ColdER version adds more fleece on the inside to keep your entire hand warm, but they are still light enough to wear in the early spring and late fall. The additional fleece is added to the palms of the gloves, completely wrapping your hands in warm fleecy goodness. It does remove that connected feeling you get with the standard palms, but when the temperatures drop down to freezing, I’m happy to give it up to keep my hands warm. Honestly, I haven’t found a winter glove yet that has the connected feeling and keeps your hands toasty warm.

Handup’s Snow gloves

Handup recently released winter gloves that are aimed at snow sports. While I haven’t had a chance to try them, they are very similar to the ColdER days gloves, without the towel thumb. They feature a touch screen compatible silicone palm with their Party Palm Technology to make them super grippy. The palm and fleece material is water-resistant to keep your hands dry while on the slopes, but could easily pull double duty on the bike. A neoprene wrist makes them easy to live with for a jacket or long sleeve jersey. The only thing they are really missing is the towel thumb.

Hot Days

Handup Hot days gloves

For the hot days, they have added full finger and shorty gloves with an even lighter 4-way stretch back and perforated Clarino leather palm. These gloves are all about keeping your hands cool and looking cool. The back of the glove is so thin that when you make a fist to stretch the material, you can see through to your knuckles. The perforations on the palm are just enough to add a little bit of ventilation for your palms, but still protects your hands and has loads of grip in all conditions.

The material on the Hot days gloves is very breathable (and transparent).

The Hot Days gloves still include their sweat towel thumb, because your nose gets snotty even on hot days, or to wipe away that sweat. I grab these gloves all the way down to the 60’s, especially if it is a cool morning leading to a warmer day. As the temperatures rise though, you can feel the difference with the light and airy stretch material on the back of the gloves. Even through a season of use, they have held up well and show very little signs of wear.

Golf Days

Handup’s Golf gloves

If spending an afternoon following a ball around a golf course is your thing when you aren’t riding, they have you covered there too. They are made from SuperSoft leather for durability and maximum feel on the club. Ventilation holes on the fingers provide ventilation and a large velcro strap helps customize the fit. What sets them apart from other golf gloves are the typical Handup graphics on the back and palm of the gloves.

Add Some Flare To Your Ride (or golf game)

Regardless the how you ride, Handup has some gloves to add some color, comfort, and fun to your ride (or swing). The great thing is, they don’t cost an arm and a leg, maybe just a hand. Summer Shorties start at $24. Summer Hot Days and Most Days gloves are just $29. Cold Days gloves come in at $34 and the snow gloves are $35. Finally, golf gloves will only set you back $15 a glove. All except the golf gloves come in XXS through XXL. The golf gloves run XS to XL and are available in left and right individually. And while you are at it, check out some of their other clothing, socks, hats, and accessories to match your gloves or make a statement on the trails, slopes, or links.
