Hunt Revamps Carbon Disc Range

On the heels of the new SUB50 wheelset, UK wheel brand Hunt is back with a revamp of their Carbon Aero Disc wheelsets, now called the Carbon Disc Range. The updates include reimagined depths, new and wider hooked rim profiles, and a new single-sided, 36 tooth H Ratchet SGL hub. The new wheels are an evolution of Hunt‘s product lines to meet the needs of riders as they continue to evolve. The new Carbon Disc Range reduces weight, improves acceleration and aerodynamics, and leads to a faster overall wheelset.

The new Carbon Disc wheelsets will be available in the same 30, 40, and 50mm deeps, with the 65mm version being dropped. Widths expand to 22mm (+2mm) internal and 30mm (+3mm) externally, making them perfect for anything from 25-50mm tires, with a sweet spot set at 28-30 mm. Wheelsets ship with tubeless tape already installed and valve stems included, making them tubeless ready right out of the box, but the hooked beads allow you to run them with tubed clinchers as well. The U-shaped carbon rim profile creates a stiff, aerodynamic wheel, that transfers power to the ground and carves through corners. Hunt says the new 50mm design when fit with 28mm tires is 8 watts more aerodynamic compared to the typical 25mm deep alloy wheelset that comes on many bikes, and only gives up 4 watts to their SUB50 Limitless Aero Disc wheelset, or the Enve 4.5 SES wheelset.

The new line isn’t just focused on the road. The wider rim and new hub allows the Carbon Disc line to make its way into gravel and all-road applications. Extensive testing, including impact tests and burst pressure testing of 150% of max rated PSI, means they will be able to stand up to just about anything you can throw at them. Rolling road tests and testing with Hunt’s network of athletes mean they have done their homework to create a high-performing budget wheelset that raises the bar of their historically outstanding Carbon Aero Disc line.

The new H_Ratchet 36T SGL hub offers 10-degree engagement angle without sacrificing durability or add any unnecessary weight. The new design increases engagement surface area with less shell material. Inside, Hunt uses Dumonde Tech Pro X freehub grease for long service life and prevent contamination on your harshest rides. To wrap up the build, 24 J-bend Pillar PSR spokes support the wheel, with 2.0-1.5-2.0mm triple butted spokes in the front for compliance, and 2.0-1.6-2.0mm in the rear for power transfer. These spokes are fairly easy to find incase you happen to break one, though Hunt sends spares with the wheels.

Graphics remain understated, giving them a classy look on any bike. A nice touch with every Hunt wheelset is a quality control card that is hand signed by their wheel expert. You occasionally see things like this from other brands, which offers a bit of a personal side to their products.

All three wheelsets are available now through Hunt’s website, with limited stock available to ship from their West Sussex, UK and Boulder, CO warehouses. Inventory will soon be available from the Dresden, Germany warehouse soon.
