Restrap Adds Cages, Bottles For Tight Spaces

Restrap is known for making some great bags out of the UK, but one challenge when using any frame pack is fitting water bottles in. If you have a larger frame, or are using their small frame packs, it might not be much of an issue, but for the large frame packs or those with small frames or rear suspension to deal with, fitting bottles in the triangle might not be possible. That’s where the new side load cages and bottles come in.

Side Load Cages

Side load cages aren’t anything new, but these cages have a few tricks to set them apart form the crowd. First off, you can adjust their position on the tube by 25mm through a sliding adjustment system. This will allow you to dial in the perfect placement and possibly allow you to fit two bottles in tight spaces. Depending on frame design, tucking bottles lower on the frame could aid in aerodynamics (something we should all think about, even for gravel and bikepacking) while also lowering your center of gravity ever so slightly, or you can raise it higher to make it easier to grab on the go.

You can also run on either side just by flipping them. There is a fold-away tab that helps lock the bottle in at the bottom when inserted. If you want to have the cage face the other side, just unbolt, rotate it 180 degrees, fold the original tab down, flip out the tab that is now at the bottom, and bolt it back on. Underneath, there is a Grip Strip to make sure it stays securely in place on the frame and also acts as a protector for your frame’s finish.

And for additional security when things get a little rowdy, or if you are carrying an odd size bottle (or can), there is a retention loop that adds a little more security to the cage. When not in use, it can be securely tucked away on the cage, or easily pulled out to loop around the hook to secure your beverage.

The side load cages will set you back $20.99, and weigh in at a respectable 51g for everything they offer.

Bottles

The bottles are available in two sizes, 500ml and 750ml. Weighing in at 74g and 94g respectively, you can use their height to your advantage when finding the perfect set up. For example, with mounting the cages lower, maybe you can use the tall bottle on the seat tube with the short bottle on the downtube, under the small Race Frame pack. Or maybe you are using the large frame pack, so the small one goes on the seat tube, and the tall bottle goes on the downtube. Mix and match however it works with your bike the best. The bottles themselves are made from 100% recyclable polyethylene, which is BPA/F/S and PET(E) free. They’ll run you $16.99 for the small, $17.99 for the large, and feature a contour map design with a pop of color on the spout.

The bottles and cages are available now from Restrap’s website.
