2025 Giro d’Italia: Stage 13 Results

  • Ron

Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) surged in the final meters to best Wout to take the stage win in Stage 13 of the 2025 Giro d’Italia. Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates–XRG) extends his lead in the battle for the maglia rosa.

It’s the 4th stage win in the 2025 grand tour for Pedersen, making him only the 4th rider this decade to reach that mark in a single edition. Before him, Arnaud Démare and Filippo Ganna both took 4 wins in 2020, and Tadej Pogačar claimed 6 victories in the 2024 Giro.

The day started with a nine man breakaway that reigned for the first 120km of the stage. The average speed of before the stage entered its second, hillier half was nearly 50km/h.

UAE Emirates-XRG put the most pressure on the leaders and the bunch was all back together with 55km to go. Other attacks ensued with sprint and KOM contenders trying to grab points where they could.

Christian Scaroni (XDS ) and Lorenzo Germani (Groupama ) surged over the summit of the San Giovanni and held a decent gap.

Yet the commitment to the Red Bull sprint at 10km to go and following stage win from UAE Emirates was absolute. It was a matter of when they attackers would be caught rather than “if.”

Ayuso and Del Toro blazed out of the bunch to scoop 4 and 2 bonus seconds at the Red Bull sprint with 10km remaining, with Scaroni getting the winning 6.

Romain Bardet (Picnic PostNL) and Mathias Vacek (Lidl-Trek) attacked soon after, but the GC teams were determined to make their mark on the hilltop finale of Monte Berico. Bardet and Vacek were caught inside the the final kilometer and it came down to an uphill sprint with Pedersen, van Aert and Del Toro.

Speaking in the press conference, the Mads Pedersen said: “Not only the Giro, but the whole season has been really good for me so far. I wouldn’t say that I’m one of the best riders in the world but in the top 5 riders in what I’m good at. The work pays off now. After being good in the classics and good at the beginning of the Giro, I try to keep that shape till Rome. In a finale like today’s, you have to see the openings. I was on the right side of Wout [van Aert], I had to open the sprint when I saw the 200m mark, hoping it was enough to keep to the lead till line and knowing that it burns in everyone’s legs. But I would have given this win away to let Mathias Vacek get it if it was possible, this kid has worked so much for me! I was expecting Isaac Del Toro to be up there for sprinting and I was hoping to be faster than him. Giulio [Ciccone] is also in a great shape so we can share the pressure. He has found a fine balance between assuming the pressure and taking it easy, it’s a new Cicco we see now”.
