Joining the growing trend of lighter weight medium travel trail bikes, Ibis has announced the 5th generation of their Ripley model.
With 117mm of DW-Link rear travel and 130mm in the front, the Ripley SL definitely hews towards the XC end of the trail spectrum, but the claims that it‘ll plow through when the going gets rough. Weighing in a 5 pounds for the frame and shock, the kit also includes dialed Ibis STOW in-frame storage with meticulously designed bags, room for two bottles, and phenomenal levels of quality since it is built in-house in their California factory.
The Ripley SL will be available in five sizes from SM to XL, meaning that riders from 5′ to 6’7″ should be able to find their fit.
There’s a welcome threaded bottom bracket, and while there is some internal cable routing, most lines should be accessible via the STOW storage ports. There are external brake line guides on the rear that allow easier linkage service without having to disconnect and re-bleed the rear brake. While most complete builds of the bike will use wireless shifting, Ibis also specced an external cable clip for optional rear derailleur cable routing, allowing mechanical shifting option without adding weight or unused ports.
The bike will be available as frame and shock (Fox Float SL) for $4,499 with complete builds ranging from $6249 (SRAM Eagle 90) to $11.449 (Deore XTR)
