Chris King Re-Enters BMX With New Hubs

  • Ron

Just in for the MADE custom bike show, Chris King Precision Components is releasing redesigned, , race-focused, BMX hubs.

“We last made BMX hubs in 2018,” said King president and General Manager Kirby Bedsaul, “and not a day has passed since then without riders asking us to make them again, so we’re happy, finally, to be able to get those riders going on something new, an improvement on the old design, and a hubset we think will win a lot of races for those riders who have been patiently waiting for this day.”

The front, with no rotor mount, is made for 20mm axles. The rear has a 6-bolt rotor mount, and incorporates the legendary King RingDrive™ with internal needle , just like the King BMX hubs of yore. The rear hub is available for 15mm thru- or M10 bolt-on. The new BMX hubsets will be available in all colors. The rear hub will come stock with King’s 72T RingDrive™ for quickest engagement but is also compatible with their 36T RingDrive™ for lower drag and higher maximum .

“These hubs are really race-optimized,” Bedsaul continued. “We reduced rear hub weight by about 50g, while maintaining stiffness with a one-piece hardened axle. We increased the diameter and optimized flange angles for 20″ rims. You combine all that with the tuneability our hubs offer, and these new hubs should make BMX racers very excited.”

The bolt-on version of the rear hub comes with steel bolts, though riders can also order custom Ti bolts (finished like King’s Axle Project axles) to upgrade their hubset for maximum weight savings. All hubsets are available in 36-hole configuration.

Weight for the rear hub is 297g. For the front, it’s 170g.

Retail price for the rear hub is $580, and the front is $310. axle bolts are $35/pair.
