Castelli has ushered in the next generation of its game-changing Polartec® AirCore⢠products with the launch of new Perfetto 4, Perfetto Pro and Gabba Pro jackets.
AirCore⢠was introduced into the Castelli range last year after being developed in partnership with Polartec®, a pioneering fabric that ticks every box when it comes to being lightweight, highly breathable, windproof and water repellent.
The Perfetto RoS 3 Jacket was the world’s first product to feature AirCoreā¢, and for the fourth generation of this iconic jacket, Castelli’s designers have opted to produce two distinct versions: the Perfetto 4 and Perfetto Pro.
Castelli Global Brand Manager Steve Smith explains: āWe’re incredibly proud of the Perfetto RoS 3; it truly is a groundbreaking jacket that raised the bar for all-condition performance. The feedback we kept on hearing from customers, though, was that it was lighter weight than previous Perfettos, and that they wanted more warmth. That’s why, with the Perfetto 4, we’ve listened to that feedback and introduced a new 219g* AirCore fabric to this jacket which has more loft and provides added insulation.
Castelli Perfetto 4
āThe Perfetto 4 is designed for everyday riders, with a performance fit and renewed focus on warmth, comfort and protection. The Perfetto Pro though, is a sleek, minimalist race piece. Its ergonomic, close-to-body construction is designed to eliminate excess and maximize breathability and stretch. It is produced from a 150g* AirCore⢠fabric which delivers an optimal balance of breathability, stretch and protection for riders operating at higher speeds and sustained intensity. It is the jacket Soudal Quick-Step have been using since the start of the season in the world’s biggest races.ā
The Perfetto 4 has been redesigned from scratch to be the benchmark for all-condition performance. Its revolutionary, PFAS-free, electrospun, semi-air-permeable AirCore⢠membrane offers unrivaled protection for cyclists who ride in cool conditions (typically between 4-12°C / 39/53°F) with the possibility of light showers.
The instantly recognizable shoulder taping has been updated with a transparent chameleon tape giving a revitalized look and feel, and the zippered ventilation openings from previous generations are no longer required due to AirCore⢒s incredible breathability. A reimagined splash tail has been introduced to more effectively guard against road spray, with metal drainage holes added to the rear pockets, in a nod to the very first Gabba.

Castelli Perfetto Pro
The Perfetto Pro’s 150g AirCore⢠fabric provides the same essential protection in cooler conditions (with the sweet spot for this jacket being 6-14°C / 42/57°F), while also keeping riders dry in light showers. A new, transparent shoulder tape has been introduced to reinforce the shoulder seams for targeted rain protection without added bulk, and the floating pocket and splash tail constructions have been refined from the Gabba R jackets and integrated to deliver stability and functionality at race pace. Smith added: āIt’s always an exciting moment introducing a new Gabba into the range as it’s a jacket that revolutionized the cycling apparel market in the same way AirCore⢠transformed how modern cyclists dress for colder conditions. This, and the Perfetto Pro, are jackets you want to wear when you need breathability, mobility and a competitive edge, while the Perfetto 4 is everything you loved about our previous Perfettos, but taken to the next level. All three jackets provide excellent warmth, breathability and protection against intermittent showers but if torrential rain is forecast, we’d recommend the Gabba R for complete waterproof coverage.ā
AirCore⢠is a fabric that remains unmatched. It is 100% free from PFAS-based chemicals** and engineered from recycled Polyester yarns to produce an extremely tight membrane that shuts out the elements while still allowing air to permeate it.
Castelli and PolartecĀ® prioritized breathability over water repellence during its development as getting wet from the inside through sweat is as big of a problem for cyclists as getting soaked from rain, sleet or snow.
AirCore⢠was engineered to be both essentially windproof and waterproof. It is essentially windproof as it lets in a very small, imperceptible amount of air that delivers air permeability of 0.7 cubic feet per minute (CFM).
AirCore⢠is essentially waterproof too, achieving a hydrostatic pressure test score of 5,000mm, which means normal rain would have to fall with 6.25 times more force than it usually does to permeate it.
Castelli and its sister company Sportful both have exclusive rights to utilize AirCore⢠ in the cycling industry, with a host of global outdoor clothing brands adopting the technology this winter.

** There are no intentionally added PFAS chemicals in the AirCore⢠fabric, but since these chemicals are everywhere in our environment, Castelli and PolartecĀ® can’t guarantee zero contamination during the manufacturing or transportation process.
