2024 Giro d’Italia: Stage 1 Results

  • Ron

Jhonatan Narvaez (Ineos Grenadiers) has won Stage 1 of the 2024 Giro d’Italia, the 140km long Venaria Reale-Torino that marks the start of the Corsa Rosa and decides the first Maglia Rosa of the race.

Maximilian Schachmann (Bora – Hansgrohe) and Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) finished second and third respectively.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner and Maglia Rosa Jhonatan Narvaez said: “It’s a great feeling. We had planned this with the team but I had to follow Pogacar and it still hurts me now. He went really hard but at the end I made it. In the sprint, I think he went too long. It’s amazing. We don’t have many opportunities in a Grand Tour to win a stage. Especially this one. It puts me in the Maglia Rosa. I had dreamt of this jersey. It’s been very difficult to get it”.
